    History

The drum is the oldest musical instrument known to man. It has been used for communications, ceremonies, requiems for the dead, calls to battle, and fog signals in the Turkish Navy.

Competitions

All individual competitors are required to have a minimum of one and a maximum of two pipers to accompany them. The piper does not receive a score.

Competitors receive scores in
the following seven categories:

  • Rolls
  • Tone
  • Tempo
  • Execution
  • Rhythm & expression
  • Quality & variety
  • Blend
